Neighborhood Watch for Sam Hughes - looking for volunteers

In preparation for the upcoming neighborhood watch for Sam Hughes we are looking for volunteers to serve as group captains for each block in the neighborhood

SAM HUGHES: A GREAT NEIGHBORHOOD WITH A SENSE OF PLACE

As everyone who lives here knows, Sam Hughes is a wonderful neighborhood. It is in an excellentlocation, close to the university and close to downtown. Almost all important amenities - postoffice, library, park, school, markets, restaurants, ice cream store - are within a few blocks. And, most importantly, it contains a variety of interesting, aesthetically pleasing older homes.

Sam Hughes became a district listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, with a boundary increase in 2000. It is one of 21 National Register districts in Tucson. Armory Park was the first district, created in 1974. Other National Register neighborhoods include Colonia Solana, Blenman-Elm, and El Encanto. Being on the National Register indicates that a neighborhood contains properties with specialsignificance to the community that are worthy of preservation. Also, being on the Register affords a building, site, or district a certain prestige that can enhance the value of the property and raisecommunity awareness and pride.

In addition, properties listed in the National Register can receivea significant break in property taxes, which is an incentive to encourage rehabilitation and discourage demolition. This reduction in taxes, which can be up to 50%, lasts for 15 years, and can be obtained as long as the structure is a " contributing" property to the national register listing. this means that a house must (1) represent one of predominant architectural styles in neighborhood, and (2) not have had major changes façade property. if more than 50% homes lose their historic integrity, we all tax advantages thenational places. thus, there is real economic advantage maintaining exterior appearance structure.the reduction program managed by state preservation office phoenix,www.pr.state.az.us. but, equally important as any experience life neighborhood close almost everything cherishes its ambience."

Controlling mosquito populations takes a basic understanding of biology and a community effort to back it up.
