Night Blooming Cereus - shot 6-13 and 14, 2010
Also known as "Queen of the Night" or "Reina de la noche."
Most olde timers of The Olde Pueblo already know about this strangely Magical, yearly
Desert Event.
The Night Blooming Cereus only bloom one or two days per year, in late May thru mid July.
They are more apt to be seen in "full bloom," late at night. But on this day, I
caught
two
at
9am.
Many more came that afternoon and evening. But the next day, all
were
gone, closed for business until next year.
Sunday, 7:00am, 6-13-2010!
Note early bloom at bottom right/circled, slightly open,
and
other
circled ones, stilled closed, not blooming. (orange colored)
Below was 7:30am. Still not in bloom.
The shot below is the same one as the 1st picture (bottom right) at
9:00am, in full bloom, this was only 1 1/2 hours later.
Another neighbor below, at 9:10am.
Sunday, 7:15pm, 6-13-2010.
Many now in bloom! Orange unopened ones will bloom later in
the eve, and are ready to burst.
