July 21, 2009, Himmel Park Library Meeting Room

Meeting called to order by Rick Bell at 7:00p.m.

Approval of 6/16/09 BOD Minutes: Motion/second/passed.

Presentations:

1. 1 Casitas on Broadway: Zelnio displayed visuals showing exterior colors and layout. The project has meet LEED requirements, has a permit for construction, just waiting for HUD approval, anticipating construction in 4-6 weeks.
2. 2. Quality of Life Survey:Neri/Capin/G. Head: Executive Summary was discussed. Neri stressed that 1/3 of crimes involve unsecured items, homeowners should consider all source approach, registration of transitional housing, control of graffiti. 321 surveys were perused and the summary is available at the SHNA web site. Some of the results were: almost 1/3 of the participants are not reporting crimes to TPD; 1/3 have experienced crime in the last 11 months; participants are willing to engage in crime prevention efforts, more information/outreach is needed to help develop awareness and provide preventative information; 80% support creation of a Strategic Plan to address quality of life issues. Recommendations included Awareness Campaign, more Neighborhood Watch Groups; community fostering events (residence number painting campaign, One Can a Week effort, Meet & Greet events.

Reports:

Treasurer: Budget to Actual report circulated, showing a balance as of 7/21/09 of $48,905.

Sam Hughes Cares for Seniors - Emailed report from Coordinator Mills: a) Served 9 different seniors in June; continue planning for Oktoberfest party 10/18; no Steering Committee meeting in August.

CCRC: Schuessler to replace Soltys.

Membership - Bell: Example of T-shirt shown at an approximately cost of $9 each, Membership cards distributed, City mailing sent to neighborhood for more members. Traffic - Donahue: "Safe Routes to Schools" is awaiting funds; when available the selected consultant will be given the go-ahead; during the design phase, public meetings will be held; Tucson DOT person in charge is Zelin Canchola. Land Use/NPZ - Schuessler: Attended 6/22/09 meeting where the position of NPZ was read. Feldman & Jefferson Park are the first neighborhoods involved.

Old Business: a) Benedictine Monastery needs and various ideas discussed; issue to be revisited at the next meeting; b) Can A Week program tabled; Vacancies on the Board discussed.

New Business: The 8/18/09 meeting will be a retreat/planning session at PJ Sub's.
